After impact, a Union Pacific Railroad locomotive dragged a
pickup about 3/4 of a mile before coming to a stop.
UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA at Kearney student Jimmy Ray Barnett, 19,
died around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night after the pickup he was
driving collided with an eastbound Union Pacific Railroad train
four miles west of Kearney near Evergreen Road. The Buffalo County
Attorney's Office has ordered an autopsy, which will be conducted
Friday. There is no evidence to indicate there were any other
individuals in the vehicle at the time of the crash, the county
attorney's office said.
