WASHINGTON — Hope for a new five-year farm bill is drying up like a drought-parched cornfield.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, favors a five-year bill but noted recently that Congress is in session only for a few days before the current farm bill expires this month. Many lawmakers, after all, are anxious to head home and hit the campaign trail.
