Woman, dog rescued from pond

Law enforcement officers pulled a Kearney woman and her Great Dane out of a small pond north of Cottonmill Lake at 2441 East Arbor Lane at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday after the dog had fallen through the ice.

KEARNEY -- Law enforcement officers pulled a Kearney woman and her Great Dane out of a small pond north of Cottonmill Lake at 2441 East Arbor Lane at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday after the dog had fallen through the ice.

Capt. Bob Anderson of the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office said the dog fell into the pond behind a home near East Arbor Lane, and the woman went to retrieve the dog when they both went into water up to the woman’s waist.

Officers and members of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department dive and rescue team helped pull the woman and dog out of the water and to safety.

Among those helping were Firefighters Mathew Begnoche and Mike Treadway, Fire Engineer Matt Ullman and Fire Inspector/volunteer Terry Eirich.

No injuries were reported.
