SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede snapped the Tri-City Storm's five-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory Friday night at the Sioux Falls Arena.
With the win, Sioux Falls moved past Tri-City for second place in the United States Hockey League's West Division. Omaha leads the division with 18 points followed by Sioux Falls (16 points) and Tri-City (15).
Matt Bailey and Jacob Johnstone each scored for Sioux Falls, which outshot Tri-City 32-13. Bailey, who played in 58 games with Tri-City last year, pulled Sioux Falls even at 1-1 with his team-leading seventh goal of the year at the 16:31 mark of the second period.
Johnstone netted the game winner 51 seconds into the third period.
Storm goalie Carsen Chubak gave Tri-City a chance to win. Chubak made 30 saves.
Tyler Pistone scored at the 13:21 mark of the first period to give Tri-City the early lead. Blake Coleman and Kenny Brooks assisted on the score.
Tri-City played without defensemen Rick Pinkston and Andrew Panzarella. The two were serving the first game in their two-game suspensions they received for fighting in the final five minutes in Tri-City's game against Lincoln Tuesday.
Tri-City plays the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05 p.m. tonight (Saturday) in Des Moines.
