After 12 years of school photos with goofy, toothless smiles or unfortunately-timed breakouts, most seniors can’t wait to finally have a glamorous photo in the yearbook.

Searching through the #seniorpics hashtag on Instagram, though, might result in some unrealistic expectations. Some popular locations aren’t always safe (or legal), and maybe what seems like it will be unique will be exactly like every other graduating seniors’ new profile pic.

A good way to avoid a cliche shot and set your ‘gram up for success is to pick out a great photographer. (We’ve rounded up a list here.)

As you’re dreaming of the photoshoot, here are some locations and looks you might want to avoid, and a few others to try instead:
