KEARNEY - Buffalo County Treasurer Jean Sidwell has survived a challenge from County Supervisor Hoss Dannehl and will retain her seat for another term.

According to unofficial election results, Sidwell, a Democrat from Kearney, won with 6,080 votes.

Republican Dannehl of Riverdale received 5,140 votes. There also were six write-in votes.

Sidwell, 59, has been Buffalo County Treasurer since 1983.

Dannehl, 73, represents District 2 on the Buffalo County Board and has two years remaining on his term as a supervisor.

Sidwell lives in Kearney with her husband, Scott. They have two grown children and two grandchildren.

She is a member of the Nebraska Association of County Officials Board of Directors, the Nebraska Public Agency Investment Trust Board of Directors, chair of the County Treasurer's Motor Vehicle Committee and chair of the Treasurer's Legislative Committee.

The county treasurer handles motor vehicle registrations, titles, real estate and personal property tax collection, miscellaneous revenue for the county, public tax sales, county investments and political subdivision bonds.
