The Kearney Underground series - published every other Monday - by the Kearney Hub offers behind-the-scenes looks at area landmarks for our readers. This week, the Hub was allowed to explore the basement of the Museum of Nebraska Art in downtown Kearney where the museum offers classes for the community, preserves and archives donated art by Nebraska artists. Currently, 5,000-6,000 pieces are stored in the museum's permanent collection. MONA celebrates Nebraska’s artistic culture and heritage by collecting and preserving, exhibiting and interpreting the art of the Cornhusker state since 1979. According to the MONA website, the museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
