KEARNEY — Carlos O’Kelly’s Mexican Cafe at 113 Third Ave. closed its doors Sunday, putting between 25 and 30 employees out of work.
The restaurant’s financial performance led to its closing.
"The building needed to be repaired and updated, which we do on a regular basis with all our restaurants, but we couldn’t justify spending half a million on that," David Phillips, director of marketing for Carlos O’Kelly’s franchises, said from Wichita, Kan.
He said the Kearney Carlos O’Kelly’s employed between 25 and 30 people, most of them part-time employees.
The building is now for sale, he said.
Carlos O’Kelly’s has 20 restaurants in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin and Virginia, Phillips said.
