KEARNEY — A Kearney teen is in custody for the Thanksgiving BB gun shooting of a Kearney man near Harmon Park.
The 15-year-old teen was taken to the Northeast Nebraska Juvenile Detention Center at Madison after being arrested Friday on suspicion of felony second-degree assault and using of a weapon, and discharging a firearm from a public highway, a misdemeanor.
Late this morning formal charges against the teen had not been filed by the Buffalo County Attorney’s Office.
At 2 p.m. Thursday Kearney Police Department Officers were called to the CHI Health Good Samaritan emergency room for a 26-year-old man who reported being shot at his residence in Kearney, according to KPD’s Facebook page.
The investigation revealed there was an altercation involving several people at a house near 30th Street and Fifth Avenue. The man was shot more than once with what police believe is a BB gun or pellet gun.
The man was treated for his injuries and released. The incident remains under investigation.
In a separate incident, KPD still is looking for a suspect vehicle involved in a Nov. 17 shooting near 39th Street and 17th Avenue. Around 12:23 a.m. police were called to the area to investigate a report of shots fired.
While investigating, the officers received a report from CHI that a man had walked into the emergency room with a single gunshot wound to his left upper arm.
The 21-year-old victim told officers the incident happened near 39th Street and 17th Avenue in Kearney and the suspect departed northbound on 17th Avenue in a tan or gray extended cab pickup, possibly a GMC or Chevrolet. It’s unclear how many people were involved in the incident.
The man was treated for his injuries and released.
It’s unclear whether the two shootings are related, and both incidents remain under investigation.
