Semi fire

Elm Creek Volunteer Fire Department works to extinguish flames at a semi trailer fire on Interstate 80.

ELM CREEK — No injuries were reported Wednesday night after a semi trailer caught fire on Interstate 80 near Elm Creek.

Around 7 p.m. the semi caught fire two miles east of the Elm Creek interchange in the westbound lanes. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the fire started after the semi blew a tire and caught fire.

The fire then quickly spread to the semi and trailer.

​I-80 was closed for about two hours while members of the Elm Creek Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the flames and the scene was cleaned up.
