KEARNEY — Authorities have identified a Kearney man as the victim of a car-pedestrian crash Tuesday night west of Kearney.

Hunter Rheome, 18, was struck 1 ½ miles west of Kearney on 18th Street. The driver of the 2000 Chevrolet Geo is identified as Gary L. Boyd, 46, of rural Kearney.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday Boyd was driving west on 18th Street, a gravel road, when he struck Rheome. Rheome was transported to CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney where he died.

An autopsy has been ordered.

A portion of West 18th Street was closed for several hours as the crash was being investigated.

The crash remains under investigation.


KEARNEY — An autopsy has been ordered in the Tuesday night death of a man involved in a fatal car-pedestrian crash 1 ½ miles west of Kearney on a rural county road.

At 8 p.m. the Buffalo County Sheriff’s office received a report of the crash. A preliminary investigation revealed a 46-year-old Kearney man was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Geo west on 18th Street, a gravel road, when he struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a young adult male, was transported to CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney where he died.

Police are trying to identify the victim.
