LINCOLN — James W. "Jim" McChesney, 86, of Lincoln, formerly of Kearney, died Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the CountryHouse Residence for Memory Care in Lincoln.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church in Lincoln.
Rev. McChesney was born May 3, 1933, on a farm near Narka, Kan., to John W. and Ella (Saip) McChesney.
Following education at Nebraska Wesleyan University and Boston University School of Theology in Boston, Jim was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church in 1963 and served many UM churches throughout Nebraska, residing in Curtis, Martell, Bradshaw, Henry, Wilber, Gothenburg and Fairbury. His last appointment was Central District superintendent of the United Methodist Church, Kearney, before retiring in Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Lisa (Robert) Edson of Houston; sons, Bill (Stacy) of Loveland, Colo., and David (Jan) of Lincoln; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Eleanor) McChesney of Clay Center, Kan.; and sister, Neva (McChesney, Joy) Hermes of Concordia, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Nellie McChesney; and brother, Warren McChesney.
