SUMNER — Renee L. Kersting, 33, of Sumner died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, as a result of an automobile accident four miles west of Wood River on Interstate 80.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with the Rev. Richard Kothe officiating.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney.
Burial is planned at a later date at Stanley Cemetery near Amherst.
She was born Oct. 20, 1985 in Kearney to Jim and LeaAnn (Hansen) Vavra. She lived in Kearney until the age of 7 and then moved to Amherst until the age of 16. While in school in Amherst she was active in track, cross country, basketball and volleyball. She then moved to Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island High School.
She married Bernard “Butch” Kersting Sept. 10, 2011, in Kearney. She worked at Dairy Queen in Kearney and was currently a stay-at-home mom.
She was confirmed and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst. Renee enjoyed baking, arts and crafts, photography, music and bingo. She loved taking her kids and nieces and nephews to Harmon Park and other splashpads and above all loved being a wife and a mom.
Survivors include her husband Butch of Sumner; daughters, Emma Vavra of Amherst, Khloe and Kira Kersting, both of Sumner; sons, Kyson Kersting of Sumner and Isaac Vavra-O’Brien of Ansley; stepdaughter, Kaeley Kersting of Kearney; father and step-mother, Jim and Susan Vavra of Amherst; mother, LeaAnn Hansen of Grand Island; brother, Derek Vavra and wife Kelsey of Amherst; sisters, Jennifer Vavra of Grand Island, Chelsie Bonzagni and husband Derek of Knoxville, Tenn., Brianna Vavra of Grand Island; grandmothers, Jane Vavra-Schmid and Marilyn Schnuerle, both of Kearney, and grandfather, Lonnie Hansen of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Betty Lucas and grandfathers James Vavra and Bill Schnuerle.
