SUMNER — Ronald Dee Schnacker, 79, of Sumner died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney with Jon MacDonald and Eric Sterling officiating. Burial will be at Sumner Cemetery. A luncheon at the Sumner Community Center will follow the burial services.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday and one hour before services Saturday, all at the funeral home.

Ron was born on Feb. 24, 1940, in Miller to Clifford L. and May L. (Dickerson) Schnacker. He attended Miller and Sumner high schools and graduated with the class of 1958.

He married Gena Johnson on Sept. 5, 1959, in Sumner. Ron and Gena began their married life in Omaha while Ron worked in the meat-packing industry. After 10 years of building plants and training personnel in Omaha, Harlan, Cozad and Lexington, Ron decided to pursue his love of farming.

In 1969, Ron moved his family to the Sumner area and became an active member of the community, including serving as a member of the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller School Board. Ron was a hard worker; his hands attest to the work of his life. Ron was a member of a nondenominational church and chose to serve the Lord as a youth, staying true to his profession throughout his life. His faithfulness was an inspiration to his family.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Gena of Sumner; sons, Tracy Schnacker and his wife, Kathy, of Topeka, Kan., Cris Schnacker and his wife, Marta, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Perry Schnacker and his wife, Janet, of Shawnee, Kan., and Layne Schnacker and his wife, Amy, of Amherst; daughter, Becky Rieken and her husband, Paul, of Dakota City; brother, Gerald Schnacker of Alma; sister-in-law, Donna Schnacker of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and brother, Robert Schnacker.

Memorials are suggested to the Sumner Rescue Unit.
