——

She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Wilma was born in Elm Creek on Aug. 16, 1929, to Oliver and Mary (Carmen) Mays. She attended school in Elm Creek, graduating from Elm Creek High School in 1947.

She married Gene Miller of Elm Creek on Nov. 12, 1948. They were married for 62 years.

Wilma worked in her mother-in-law’s café for several years and later at Baldwin’s in Kearney. She retired from Baldwin’s after 30 years of service.

In her younger years, she enjoyed playing the piano and going to barn dances.

In later years, she liked to play cards and work puzzles. She belonged to the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney and later the First Christian Church in Elm Creek.

Being near her family was most important to her. She moved to Loveland in 2011 to be near them after Gene’s death.

Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Linda (Lonnie) McCormick, Susan (Dennis) Thiers, Patricia (Riley) Hinojosa and Jo Ellen (Mike) Baker, all of Loveland; sister, Brenda Fisher of Aurora, Colo.; brother, Robert Atkinson of San Antonio; two sisters-in-law, Lois Ochsenhirt (Willi) of Utah and Barbara Czimer of Missouri; six grandchildren, Nathan (Jyl) Ourada, Angela Levin, Andrea Ourada, Dustin (Mary) McCormick, Christopher (Katie) Hinojosa and Julie (Ben) Augustine; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Leroy and Virgil Mays; and sister, Gladys Muncie.

Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
