As Memorial Day nears and we reflect on sacrifices made by so many men and women who helped preserve our freedoms, my colleagues and I are proud to announce a major effort in Holdrege designed to remember those heroes.
Honoring All Those Who Served: They All Served. Some Gave All Their Tomorrows.
Solemnly inscribed in a black granite monument sponsored by Holdrege Disabled American Veterans, the words above will honor all veterans, past and present. A fundraising drive has been launched to pay construction costs that are estimated to be as much as $150,000.
The monument will feature engraved emblems of the five major armed services: Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard. Active duty veterans who served honorably may add their names to the monument that will stand in the highly visible northwest corner of South Park in Holdrege.
The city of Holdrege extended its approval and has donated space as well as other support for erection of the veterans memorial and a special account has been established at FirsTier Bank to receive donations to cover the costs. Veterans or families who wish to have names added are asked to cover only a nominal cost for engraving.
We appreciate the support from so many people who have helped us to this point, and I look forward to earning the support of veterans, their families and our friends to help complete this important project. To learn more or how you can help, please contact me at 308-995-5457 or Clarence Dreiling at 308-999-0865.
We proceed with respect and a grateful heart for all who served.
