KEARNEY — The Kearney High girls tennis team wrapped up its season Friday with a 9-0 sweep of Norfolk.

"Today was solid day for us top to bottom. It has been a while since we played a traditional dual. I was very pleased with how well we played singles," KHS coach Troy Saulsbury said. "Our depth and consistency really showed up in those matches."

Kearney lost just six games in the singles matches.

In the doubles matches, senior Sage Wilkinson won her first varsity match on Senior Day. Olivia Flood and Wilkinson trailed 5-0 and 7-4 before coming back to win 9-7.

"We started off the match slow and we weren’t being very aggressive and we were hitting a lot of unforced errors," Saulsbury said. "Sage and Olivia did an excellent job of turning the match around by attacking more at the net.

"We did a better job of picking off weak returns at the net. We also stayed patient and waited for our opportunity to attack."
