STAMFORD — Kearney Catholic swept the team titles Thursday at the C-8 District Track and Field Meet at Southern Valley High School.

The KCHS boys won 11 of the 17 events and scored a whopping 191 points. Runner-up South Loup was 100 points behind.

The Stars’ Heinrich Haarberg and Dalton Schmitt claimed four gold medals apiece. Haarberg won the 100- and 200-meter dashes as well as the high jump. Schmitt won the long jump and triple jump. Both ran on the winning 4x100 relay and Schmitt ran on the winning 4x400 relay.

Teammate Trey Colling was a double winner in the shot put and discus, while Spencer Hilker won the 400 and ran on the 4x400 relay. Camden Sesna completed the Stars’ gold-medal performances by winning the 3,200.

Other state qualifiers for KCHS were Emmett Black in the 200, Mason Clark in the 800 and 1,600 and Sam Clinch in the shot put.

Kearney Catholic’s girls scored 109 points to beat Cambridge by 18 points.

Nicole Messbarger won the 200 and 400, and Grace Oberg won the 1,600 and 3,200 to give the Stars a pair of double winners. In addition, Kayla Lee won the 100, Ashlyn Wischmeier won the 800 and Ashley Keck won the 300 low hurdles. Lee, Wischmeier, Keck and Messbarger teamed up to win the 4x400.

Other Hub Territory winners in the C-8 District were Elm Creek’s Samantha Knapp in the pole vault and the Gibbon girls 4x800 relay team.

Bluejays strike gold in Ord

ORD — Ravenna’s Jack Drahota was a double winner Thursday at the C-6 District in Ord.

Drahota won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.90 seconds, then bested the field in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 39.87 seconds.

Bluejays also swept the high jump gold medals. For the boys, Trey Mieth cleared 6 feet, while McKenna Schmitt went 4-10 in the girls competition.

Ravenna’s only other winner was Alexia Crowell in the 100.
