OMAHA — Kearney High held its own in a difficult Class A girls state tennis tournament at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha.
The Bearcats wrapped up the two-day event in seventh place with 18.75 points to secure their 16th consecutive top-10 finish.
They did not have any players vying for state championships Friday. No. 1 singles player Olivia Flood and the No. 2 doubles team of Allison Chally and Makenna Henning competed for fifth place, though.
Flood lost to Millard North 8-2 in her fifth-place semifinals match. The freshman bounced back to defeat Papillion-La Vista in a competitive seventh-place match, 8-5.
Chally and Henning faced Millard West in the semifinals of the fifth-place bracket. The Bearcats had opportunities but fell to Millard West 8-6. They earned seventh place at No. 2 doubles with a 8-1 victory over Bellevue West.
