KEARNEY — Kearney High boys claimed the championship at the Kearney High Invitational swimming and diving meet and the Kearney girls took second in the six-team meet Saturday at the KHS pool.
The Bearcat boys finished with 316 points while Grand Island was second with 256 and Hastings finished third with 240.
Ethan Kinney won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 5.80 seconds.
Jacob Nieveen won the gold medal in the 100 butterfly (54.19).
In the girls competition, Lincoln Pius X took first place with 353 points, while Kearney was second with 205 and Hastings was third with 179.
Kearney’s Lauren Dillon was a double winner, claiming the gold medal in the 200 individual medley (2:25.55) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.98).
Runners-up included Hannah Hepner in the girls 1-meter diving, Thomas Walsh in the 500 freestyle (5:10.22) and Kinney in the 100 backstroke (55.55).
On Friday, Kearney swept a dual with Scottsbluff/Gering, winning the girls meet 294-193 and the boys meet 344-153.
KHS winners in the girls individual events were Dillon in the 100 butterfly (1:10.50), Hapner in the 1-meter diving, Addison Pierzina in the 100 backstroke (1:08.84), Callie Bartee in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.42) and Kay Lynn Trenkle in the 200 individual medley (2:35.24),
Kearney winners in the boys meet were Kinney in the 200 freestyle (1:54.54) and 50 freestyle (23.98), Walsh in the 200 individual medley (2:15.67) and 100 backstroke (1:04.10), Michael Machard in the 100 freestyle (53.04), Logan Arnold in the 500 freestyle (5:43.92) and Richard Harbols in the 1-meter diving.
KHS also won the girls and boys 200 medley relays and the boys 400 freestyle relay. The girls relay team included Dillon, Trenkle, Addison Pierzina and Gracie Pierzina.
Kinney, Nieveen, Arnold and Jake Svec swam on the boys medley relay while Walsh, Machard, Zebediah Black and Alex Eifert swam on the freestyle relay.
