KEARNEY — The University of Nebraska at Kearney women’s tennis team took all three doubles matches and won five times in singles to defeat Missouri Western, 6-1, Monday afternoon at Harmon Park.
UNK (14-12, 3-6 MIAA) will be the seventh seed in the eight-team MIAA Tournament, held April 26-27 in Oklahoma City. Nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma will be the first round opponent.
Senior Camryn Parnell and sophomore Claire Neil improved to 7-0 at No. 3 doubles after blanking their counterparts. UNK had to work harder in the other two spots but both tandems came away with 6-4 wins.
Neil then rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Vasilisa Polunova and sophomore Zhanel Turarbek won at the top two spots in straight sets, while senior Sherry Sun rallied to win 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.
